Why Scope 3 dominates
The largest Scope 3 categories are Purchased Goods & Services (20.19 t) and Capital Goods (11.39 t). Capital goods represent one-time equipment investments that will serve the business for many years — not recurring annual emissions. As the business scales, the per-unit footprint of this infrastructure investment decreases.
Our operational efficiency
Scope 1+2 combined is just 1.968 tonnes CO₂e — the direct emissions from running Shaivaa Algaetech's facilities. This is remarkably lean. Our electricity footprint of 0.191 t reflects a low-energy production process compared to conventional omega-3 manufacturing.
What comes next
This footprint covers Shaivaa Algaetech as a company. We are now commissioning a product-level Life Cycle Assessment (ISO 14044) to measure the footprint specifically attributable to Albae's DHA oil — from algae cultivation through to your doorstep. Results will be published here.

What the study also found: Algae DHA has higher particulate matter impact than fish oil due to bagasse combustion at the sugar mill.
